ms marvel 1

Marvel Comics presents the all-new Ms. Marvel, the groundbreaking heroine that has become an international sensation! Kamala Khan is an ordinary girl from Jersey City – until she is suddenly empowered with extraordinary gifts. But who truly is the all-new Ms. Marvel? Teenager? Muslim? Inhuman? Find out as she takes the Marvel Universe by storm! As Kamala discovers the dangers of her newfound powers, she unlocks a secret behind them as well. Is Kamala ready to wield these immense new gifts? Or will the weight of the legacy before her be too much to handle? Kamala has no idea either. But she’s comin’ for you, New York!

120 pages

How could I resist this? I mean seriously? A Pakistani-American, Muslim 16 year old girl becomes a superhero? Living with her traditional parents? And a super religious brother? Curfew breaking. Rule breaking. Friends with a Hispanic boy. Helping a criminal? Brilliant.

Surprisingly enough it manages to deliver without being cliched or over the top.

It was also beautifully drawn, and told the story of the struggle to be who you want to be rather than who you think people want you to be.

I thoroughly, thoroughly recommend this to everyone. It has shocks, heart and plenty of laughs. I need to go hunt down the rest now!
