“Can books conduct electricity?”

Weird Things Customers Say in Bookshops started life as a blog: a bookseller’s collection of ridiculous conversations on the shop floor. From ‘Did Beatrix Potter ever write a book about dinosaurs?’ to the hunt for a paperback which could forecast the next year’s weather; and from ‘I’ve forgotten my glasses, please read me the first chapter’ to ‘Excuse me… is this book edible?’ This book is illustrated by the Brothers McLeod and also includes top ‘Weird Things’ from bookshops around the world.

128 pages

Words cannot describe the range of emotions I went through reading this. There were so many face-palms, so much eye-rolling and so much laughing.

This is basically a collection of anecdotes/stories gathered from Jen’s experiences as a bookseller. Some of the things people say are insane – ranging from ignorance, to stupidity to some genuine WTF moments.

There were kids climbing on the shelves, and parents worrying about the sturdiness of the shelving rather than the behaviour of the kids. People asking for books by Jane Eyre. Like i say WTF???!!??!?!

A very quick read. Very enjoyable. Also has lots of re-read potential along with recounting the stories to friends and families.

Jen has an amazing YouTube channel, which you can find HERE
